March is Women History month so let’s spend some time on several women fashion designers who have changed fashion. Carolina Herrera was born in Caracas, Venezuela to a loving family who she holds dear. Carolina launched her first designs in 1981. The gowns, dresses and suits instantly became great hits. Since then she has added fragrances and eyewear to her fashion lines. We love Carolina Herrera’s fashions due to their elegance and intricate details. Data source: carolinaherrera.com Coco Chanel, just the name makes you sigh with longing for her beautiful designs. Coco Chanel has been deceased since 1971, but her legacy is as strong as ever. In contrast to Carolina Herrera, Coco was born in a poorhouse and at the age of twelve, when her mother died, ended up living in an orphanage for the next 7 years. She learned to be a seamstress there. In 1913 she opened her first shop selling jackets and raincoats. Although Coco had quite a few more setbacks in her life, she prevailed and will never be forgotten due to her beautiful designs that transcend time. Diane von Furstenberg is synonymous with her creation, the wrap dress. This famous garment, designed in the 1970s, is once again a hot item to own. Not only has she designed garments, jewelry, make up and luggage but also opened a French language publishing house, Salvy. Diane is president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and has taken on the sacred subject of the skinniness of models. Vera Wang was a senior fashion editor at Vogue for 16 years. Vera Wang’s career as a fashion designer started with wedding gowns in 1990. She has grown into a designer who does it all including: ready-to-wear, accessories, fragrance, jewelry, beauty, footwear, home goods and fine papers. We love her Simply Vera line which is affordable, yet still has the beautiful, contemporary Vera Wang look.
